Harold Kranz, Jr.

HAROLD KRANZ, JR

Harold Kranz, Jr. was born on September 22, 1944 in Fort McClellan, Alabama and died at home in Kensington, Maryland on May 23, 2023.

Prior to beginning his consulting firm, The Kranz Company in 1989, he served as Director, Marketing and Public Affairs for the National Rehabilitation Hospital during the first three and a half years of its history.  Before that he was Director, Public Relations for the nationally known Children's Hospital National Medical Center for 14 years.  During this time he planned, organized and produced the Washington, DC portion of the Children's Miracle Network Telethon.  During the Carter Administration he was a consultant for press advance and special events, working on such as the Panama Canal Treaty signing, and the Economic Summit Conference in Venice, Italy.

Previously Harold worked as a lobbyist for Tucker & Associates in Washington, DC, specializing in financial public affairs.  He held a BA degree in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma.

He was the immediate past chair of the Health Academy Section of the Public Relations Society of America, and member of the Executive Committee of the PRSA Board of Directors.  His awards include the Blue Ribbon Award of The American Film Festival in NYC, the Cine Golden Eagle, the National MacEacheron Award for Creative Excellence in Publications Management, the Association of American Medical Colleges Award for Excellence in Medical Education Public Relations, and an Emmy for public service broadcasting, among others.

On the community level he served as Chair of the Advisory Board of the National Ocean Access Project, a nonprofit that brings people with physical disabilities to sailing and other water sports activities, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Montgomery County Chapter of the American Red Cross.  He also worked with Ronald McDonald House, Very Special Arts and Special Olympics. 

He is survived by his wife, Nina Kranz of Kensington, Maryland.
