W. T. Haskins

Obituary for Mr. Willie L. Haskins Sr.

 

Willie Lewis Haskins, Sr. was born on December 29, 1916 to Marshal and Mathilda (Cooper) Haskins. He was the seventh child of nine children born in Idabel, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943, served his tour of duty as a Barber and received an honorable discharge in 1946. After his discharge from the Navy, Willie moved to Oklahoma City and continued his profession as a Barber, part-time. In September 26, 1946, Willie became an employee of Tinker Field Air Force Base and worked as a Ware Houseman in area A, B and building 3705 for over thirty-three years.

In 1947, Willie married Ollie Ama Robinson. They were blessed with four children: Myrtle Doris, James Ambrose, Willie Lewis, Jr., and Louise Patricia. That same year, Willie dedicated his life to Christ and became a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church. He was one of several teachers in the Adult B Sunday School class. Willie was also a Mason and a member of the American Legions Post 157 for over fifty years.

Preceding in Willie's death: his father, mother, eight siblings and one son. Willies leaves behind his children: Dr. Myrtle Doris Ziraili" (Haskins) Clayton, Dr. Willie "Scottie" Haskins, Jr. (Karen), and Louise Patricia "Pat" (Haskins) Smith; ten grandchildren: Esther Marie (Watson) Meadows (Clifford), Wellesley Kenneth Clayton, Jr., Mark Antonio Finletter Clayton, Angela Lichelle (Haskins) Russell (Eric), Kizzie Adaeba Haskins, Willie Lewis Haskins, III, Jon Khristopher Haskins Clayton, Robert Lewis Smith, Scottland Cornelius Haskins and Garrett Nicholas Haskins. Eleven great-grandchildren: Ashley, Mark, Myan, Christopher, Willie III, Heaven, Zackery, Aelani, Cameron, Chyna and Zoe. As well as a host of family and friends.
